Finding the bard within.
This morning I have been thinking about the ways in which we learn. As a child I loved to learn through watching and doing, academics call it kinaesthetic. I also loved listening to stories, so I guess that would be labelled auditory. For me these academic terms a fairly meaningless and in a way illustrate something I am understanding more and more with age. Rarely if ever are we truly able to capture on a blank piece of paper the magic of what we see or hear. Confining our experiences to the page changes their energy. Most recently this lesson was highlighted for me when I was guided to follow the path of druidry. I made the decision, owing to limited funds, to purchase the course materials in a text only version. I soon realised this was a mistake. As I began to step along my path I started listening to Druid podcasts and realised that whilst the text booklets I had received were full of information they lacked the energy and magic of the tales on the podcasts. Over the years I have become so conditioned to learning from books and texts I have become completely disconnected with my bardic ancestors. As children I think we are born as bards but our formal ways of learning and measuring an individual's academic attainment result in repressing and suppressing our true bardic natures. And with that repression and suppression comes a loss of magic and a falling asleep. Time for me to reconnect with my inner bard and immerse myself in the stories and tales of my bardic ancestors in audio form.
